The 3D stereoscopic toolset available at Park Road has evolved considerably over time. Park Road has worked alongside Quantel and SGO Mistika in the evolution of their respective stereoscopic toolsets, to a point where the facility now offers one of the best 3D platforms on the market. These stereoscopic platforms perfectly complement the world-class 3D grading environment, and Park Road’s legendary colour accuracy. Park Road has capability across all stereoscopic options, utilising both white screen (suitable for Dolby Digital and XpanD) and New Zealand’s largest silver DI theatre screen (suitable for Real-D). Additionally, Park Road caters to the emerging 3DTV technologies.
Alongside cutting edge technology, Park Road has an extremely experienced Stereoscopic team – leveraging our technologists, stereo-VFX department, and 3D suites. Meetal Gokul, Park Road’s lead Stereoscopic DI Artist, has been working with Stereo 3D since the inception of the technology at Quantel. He has worked closely with their R&D team throughout the early stages of the Stereoscopic toolset development within the Pablo. More recently our team has provided considerable value to SGO in establishing highly customised Stereoscopic pipelines for future projects. Meetal has worked alongside other Stereographers providing Stereo 3D training, including time at Pinewood Studios in London, and has well established relationships with Stereoscopic industry vendors such as 3Ality Digital and Pace HD. At Park Road, Meetal is responsible for all of the Stereoscopic delivery utilising our SGO Mistika, Quantel Pablo, 3Ality Digital SIP 2100 or in-house stereo environments built by our VFX Artists.
Senior Colourist Dave Hollingsworth, who heads the Picture department at Park Road, has more than 13 years experience in colour grading, including the DI grade on films such as Alex Proyas’ Knowing, Neill Blomkamp’s District 9, and Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones. Dave has been instrumental in driving Park Road’s stereoscopic capability and works alongside Meetal on 2D to 3D conversions, stereoscopic rushes, and stereoscopic grading.
Together, the team have worked on a number of projects including work for Space Dome, Val Morgan and the King Kong 360 3D ride for Universal Studios, overseeing all alignment, dynamic convergence, colour balancing, reconforms and final colour grade. Park Road has also undertaken a number of 2D to 3D cinema commercial conversions for clients including South Australia Tourism, Commonwealth Bank, Val Morgan, Playstation, and Corona.
